Southern Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) is a Texas incorporated non-profit 501(c)3 private volunteer fire department. Our headquarters is located in Kaufman, Texas which is about 38 miles east of Dallas, but our operation is all across the nation. Our departments main fire suppersion focus is on wildland fires. Through several years of observation before our development, we noticed that even though there are 1000's of fire departments across the nation, this is always a continued need for departments that can handle wildfire or grassland fires. Usually, departments in a local area do not have all the capability to battle the fire on their own and in some cases, even the additional departments in their area are stretched thin when responding to these types of fires. Ous goal is to help establish, either with existing departments or on their own, small strike teams consisting of 20 to 30 members from an area with equipment, to help providde additional personnal and support during these types of fires.
Our organization is multi functional in the way that we operate. While we are setup to be an operational fire department, we also function as a training operation and study department. In the years before we were established, we noticed that there was an increasing need for the ability to fight wildland/grassland fires. In some cases if a major fire outbreak was to take place, there is not enough personnal/support to go around and major loss would be a huge problem. Working with concerned individuals across the nation (and world is asked) and working with local departments and agencies, we are striving to assist in the development of programs and teams that would be able to give this needed extra support. Sometimes, this includes working with local residents in an area to develop community emergency response progams.
As an emergency response organization, we also work to provide disaster response and emergency communications through both our organization and others that we work with. We are proud to offer disaster training that can be used at anytime and within any community. We also try to work with agencies in disaster areas to either help them with fire support, obtaining equipment to help them continue their operations and for other purposes if needed.
We are made up of individuals from all walks of life that come together for the common goal of helping to protect life and property.
